Prior to receiving her medical degree, Dr. Barrett graduated Cum Laude from The University of Vermont with a degree in psychology and worked as a social worker. In 2006, she volunteered as a relief worker through Global Resource Alliance, helping traditional healers provide primary care to the local villages in Musoma, Tanzania. This transformative experience resulted in Dr. Barrett applying to naturopathic medical school as soon as she returned home from Africa.
Most of Dr Barrett’s practice is a combination of holistic primary care and holistic general practice. She treats patients of all ages for the typical health conditions that need a primary care doctor and provides highly specialized holistic care options for patients with more advanced diseases and disorders. Dr. Barrett believes in the wisdom of integrating both allopathic and naturopathic medicine to achieve the best outcome possible for her patients. As a patient advocate with a love of helping people, she devotes her time to helping patients determine what approach to medicine is best for them.
In medical school, Dr. Barrett developed a passion for working with cancer patients and completed several rotations with leading experts in the field of naturopathic oncology. Therefore, in addition to her general practice, Dr. Barrett treats patients with cancer and is working towards a board certification in naturopathic oncology (FABNO) with a breast cancer sub-specialty. She is a member of both the Society for Integrative Oncology (SIO) and The Oncology Association of Naturopathic Physicians (OncANP). Because of her experience in the field, Dr. Barrett receives referrals from Cancer Treatment Centers of America, cancer surgeons, oncologists, cancer support groups and other doctors in the Los Angeles area.
Dr. Barrett is also trained in prolotherapy, prolozone and neuroprolotherapy joint injection therapies. As a former competitive athlete sidelined by injury, she enjoys working with patients trying to avoid orthopedic surgery and looking to reduce pain from injury, arthritis and osteoarthritis. In addition, she was also born with bilateral hip dysplasia and FAI and underwent 2 hip replacement surgeries in 2014 & 2015. This experience has given her a thorough understanding of how to combine conventional and naturopathic treatment options. In her spare time, Dr. Barrett enjoys training with her swim and triathlon teams, as well as hiking, dancing and a variety of other outdoor activities.
